About the Event

Join us for a full-day, mobile continuing education experience highlighting inclusive, intergenerational, and community-centered playground design. This unique PlayTour explores three public play environments in Maryland and features expert-led CEU sessions at each stop. Transportation, meals, and refreshments are included.

Detailed Agenda

  1. 9:30–9:50 AM

    • Attendee arrival and registration Coffee, bagels, and attendee packet pickup at Kentlands Community Center


  2. 10:00–10:50 AM

    CEU Session #1: Trends in Playspace Design

    Kentlands Community Center Playground

    Explore evolving trends in play environments that respond to shifting community needs. Learn about innovative approaches in aesthetics, materials, and play value that reflect current social and cultural dynamics.


  3. 10:50–11:00 AM

    • Board buses and depart for Watkins Regional Park Playground


  4. 11:00–11:30 AM

    • Travel to Watkins Regional Park (approx. 20 minutes)


  5. 11:30 AM–12:20 PM

    CEU Session #2: A Higher Level of Inclusive Play

    Watkins Regional Park Playground

    Move beyond ADA basics to explore strategies that ensure children and families of all abilities can engage fully in play. Learn how inclusive design enhances accessibility and community connection.


  6. 11:45 AM–12:15 PM

    • Boxed lunch pickup and distribution onsite


  7. 12:20–1:00 PM

    • Travel to Buddy Attic Playground (approx. 30 minutes)

    • Time for lunch disposal and transition


  8. 1:00–1:50 PM

    CEU Session #3: Everybody Plays – Multigenerational Design Best Practices

    Buddy Attic Playground

    Discover how to create dynamic play environments that welcome and engage people of all ages. Learn how intergenerational design promotes physical activity, socialization, and inclusive community use.


  9. 1:50–2:00 PM

    • Load buses for return trip


  10. 2:00–2:30 PM

    • Travel back to Kentlands Community Center


  11. 2:30–3:00 PM

    • Final remarks, Q&A with Mike Fingeroth

    • Casual networking with ice cream served
