2021 MDASLA Awards Gala

The Maryland Chapter of the ASLA invites you to our most exciting event of the year! Enjoy networking with fellow professionals in the field and see the Baltimore Center for Architecture and Design, the new home of MDASLA along with other professional design organizations. Please join us, along with your colleagues, to celebrate this year's award winners.

See The Center: This event gives members a unique opportunity to mingle and network while being one of the first to explore our recently opened Baltimore Center for Architecture and Design. The Center for Architecture and Design serves as a high-profile, visible space to showcase the important role of architectural practice and design, and as a dynamic hub to engage professionals, students, and the public. Shared exhibition and gallery spaces, classrooms, and event spaces will offer engaging new programming on architecture, urban design, neighborhood history, historic architecture and new design projects, and the role of design in shaping the city’s future. Meet Our Keynote Speaker Atiya Wells:

Backyard Basecamp was founded by Atiya Wells, a pediatric nurse with a passion to introduce, educate, and connect families in Baltimore, especially People of Color, to local outdoor spaces. While learning more about our natural world, she often noticed that she could count the number of BIPOC folks in the room on one hand. Diving into research and history, she learned that ancestral wounding and historical trauma are key players in the lack of diversity in nature-based programming. She has dedicated her time to (re)introducing BIPOC folks to nature by starting with nature walks in their own neighborhoods, eventually embarking on a journey into the many wild spaces across Baltimore.
