Dear Fellow Landscape Architecture Professionals,
September is here—back to school, cooler weather, and plenty happening with MDASLA. First, congratulations to our incoming 2025–2026 Executive Committee, and thank you to all who have stepped up to lead our chapter!
Our Student Outreach Committee has officially launched the 2025–2026 Mentorship Program. This is a great opportunity for professionals to connect with university students, and for students to gain guidance and support from practicing landscape architects. If you’d like to serve as a mentor—or sign up as a mentee—please visit our website to learn more.
We’ve also got a busy month of events ahead. On September 18, we’ll gather at Camden Yards for the Orioles vs. Yankees game (tickets are almost gone—grab yours today!).
The next day, September 19, is PARK(ing) Day. This year’s national theme, Youth-Activating Spaces, was inspired by our chapter’s school-based programming last year. We’ll be returning to Calvin Rodwell Elementary + Middle School for a full day of outdoor activities—and we’re even expecting the Mayor to join us. At the same time, we’re partnering with Baltimore City Recreation & Parks, who will host PARK(ing) Day activities at three recreation centers. Volunteers are needed for both efforts (morning and afternoon shifts are available). And if your firm is interested in organizing their own PARK(ing) Day installation in Baltimore City, the Department of Transportation is waiving parking permit fees and streamlining the process to make it easier to participate. More details on our website.Â
Later in the month, on September 24, we’ll host a site tour at the Inner Harbor, with stops at Rash Field Park and the National Aquarium Wetlands. CEUs will be available, and attendees will hear directly from project teams and community leaders.
Finally, I’m thrilled to share that a recent Maryland project--Crownsville Hospital Memorial Park--was recognized with a National ASLA Award of Excellence in the Analysis & Planning category. Congratulations to the Design Collective team and everyone involved! A link to the project video can be found later in this newsletter.
Thank you for being part of MDASLA. I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event this Fall!
Sincerely,

Michael Pullano, PLA, ASLA
