The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission(M-NCPPC), a six-time National Recreational and Parks Association Gold Medal Award Winner is seeking a Landscape Architectural Project Manager to join the team in Montgomery Parks in building and renovating quality park and recreational facilities while protecting resources in the Montgomery County Park System.


Behind the vast and diverse Montgomery Parks system that has 424 parks and encompasses more than 37,000 acres, there is a strong Capital Improvements design and construction program that designs, builds, and renovates park facilities and projects and restores natural resources throughout Montgomery County, Maryland.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT DUTIES:

Project Manager II •Designs and manages a wide variety of medium to large projects to design or construct park and recreation facilities in a multi-disciplinary team setting, including developing project scopes, schedules, and budgets. •Manages projects that are large, technically complex, politically sensitive or high visibility. •Prepares in-house presentation graphics, concept designs and construction documents. •Coordinates work with multi-disciplinary internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies. •Procures and manages services performed by outside consultants or vendors. •Meets with and presents projects to community groups. •Prepares written reports and presents projects to the Montgomery County Planning Board. •Participates as a technical reviewer for other public agencies’ projects located on parkland, developer-built projects, and public-private partnership projects.


Project Manager I •Designs and manages a limited range of park projects. •Manages projects that are small to average in size such as playgrounds, trails, courts, dog parks, community gardens, skate parks, planting designs, and smaller park renovations. •Assists senior staff with the design and management of park projects. •Works at the first level of project management across the continuum of planning, design and construction management. •Demonstrates an understanding of Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines. •Meets with and presents projects to community groups. •Helps ensure effective project budgeting and cost control, coordinates with internal and external stakeholders, and performs a range of project management functions. Important Skills and Characteristics •Collaborative with a strong work ethic, a cooperative spirit, and creative thinking skills. •Shown ability to approach and interact with people of all backgrounds and the ability to think collaboratively with various members of the organization and other public agencies. •Proven organizational, coordination, negotiation, problem-solving and workload skills and abilities. •Knowledge and experience with word processing, presentations and spreadsheets including the entire Microsoft Office Professional software suite.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Landscape Architectural Project Manager II, Grade 26 ($61,231 - $104,980)

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or any related field.

  • Four years of progressively responsible designer and/or construction experience that includes substantive work in the range of duties and responsibilities in this class specification.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total 8 years.

  • Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment. Landscape Architectural Project Manager I, Grade 22 ($54,066 - $92,517)

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or any related field.

  • Two years of progressively responsible designer and/or construction experience that includes substantive work in the range of duties and responsibilities in this class specification.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total 6 years.

  • Valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
