If you attended this year’s Maryland Chapter ASLA Awards Gala at the historic Paca House & Garden in Annapolis, you heard me mention what a privilege it has been to facilitate the Professional Awards program over the last three years. The caliber of work - built and unbuilt - submitted each year is nothing short of remarkable. You may have also heard me announce that the 39 submissions received this year set a modern record for our chapter.
I’m grateful to the Colorado-Wyoming Chapter of ASLA for assembling a jury of accomplished professionals, and I again congratulate this year’s award winners. Your work represents the creativity and care that define our profession.
I also want to take a moment to thank, and frankly brag about, the incredible Maryland ASLA team that has spent the better part of six months planning every detail of another outstanding evening. Several years ago, a dedicated group of volunteers set out to elevate the Awards Gala into the signature event that it is today. Since then, we have made a conscious effort to reflect on, refine, and improve the experience each year. It is a tremendous undertaking, but there is nothing more rewarding than seeing our community come together to celebrate exceptional work, recognize one another’s achievements, and strengthen connections with friends and colleagues.
The record number of submissions this year speaks not only to the strength of landscape architecture in Maryland, but also to the pride, passion, and engagement of our members. Thank you for being part of this community and please stay tuned for future events!
In Fellowship and Service,
Patrick Whealton
