President's Letter: November 2026
Dear Maryland ASLA Members,
October’s highlight was our annual Strategic Planning Day, when we brought together the Executive Committee and committee chairs to take stock of our work and set priorities for the year ahead. Thank you to everyone who made time to join us and brought ideas about how our chapter can better serve its members and advance landscape architecture in Maryland.
We came away with a full calendar of events and programs for the coming year. Our plans connect national ASLA priorities with the work already underway in Maryland and across our region. I look forward to sharing what’s ahead, from opportunities to earn continuing education credits and put climate action into practice to gatherings where we can learn from one another and reconnect. As we put these plans into motion, we’ll keep looking for ways to make it easier to get involved and offer programs that respond to the needs of practitioners, firms, and students. I’d love to hear what would make your chapter membership more valuable to you.
In the meantime, we will soon be opening applications for our annual student scholarship program. If you teach, mentor, or work with landscape architecture students, please pass along the announcement and encourage them to apply. A personal nudge can make a difference.
As we head into the holiday season, I hope you’ll join us at our annual holiday party. It’s a chance to reflect on what we’ve accomplished together, catch up with colleagues and friends, and welcome members you may be meeting for the first time. I look forward to seeing you there.
Warmly,
Mick Humes
President, Maryland ASLA
