An alarming percentage of US youth are not getting the daily CDC-recommended amount of physical activity. In order to compete with popular digital entertainment that is largely sedentary, play environments need to be more engaging, challenging, and inclusive. Join MDASLA for a tour of playgrounds to see first-hand some of the current trends in playground design that are attracting children and families, engaging them in play, and encouraging them to stay.
Justin Wilson, PLA, CPSI, is President and Design Lead of Playspace Creative and has over 10 years of design and project management experience in outdoor play environments. He is a passionate advocate for inclusive, multi-generational, and community-based play spaces that provide positive developmental benefits for all users. His ability to effectively engage communities and partner with other professionals allows him to create play spaces that users love and are invested in.
The playground tour will last about 5 hours with 1 hour of that being a lunchtime meal. The content is designed to meet Health, Safety and Welfare credits. Registration includes transportation between playground sites and a boxed lunch. This tour is generously sponsored by Sparks@Play.
