Dear MDASLA members and friends,
Spring has finally sprung and is hopefully offered you the renewed sense of possibilities as it has for our chapter. April is World Landscape Architecture Month and this year's theme is Growing Together. The focus is to highlight how the spaces landscape architects create promote and facilitate people growing together with each other and with nature. Our chapter will have the honor of taking over the @nationalasla Instagram account on April 14th and 27th. We will be sharing content from our 2020 awards as well as dedicating one of the days to student content from Morgan State and UMD.
The chapter and many other organizations are gearing up for the Olmsted 200th birthday celebration that will be taking place throughout 2022. Olmsted 200 is already inviting everyone to join them for a free two-part event: a viewing of Olmsted and America’s Urban Parks, narrated by actress Kerry Washington, and a panel discussion with landscape architects and park directors from around the country. ASLA is one of ten founding partners of Olmsted 200. We look forward to being a partner with AIA Baltimore and the Friends of Maryland’s Olmsted Parks and Landscape (FMOPL) to bring our members more events next year.
Last, but not least by any measure, we are very excited to announce our conference speakers and program for the upcoming joint regional conference on June 9th and 10th. Our partners at ASLA Virginia, Potomac ASLA, and the event committees have been working very hard to develop a diverse and exciting slate of speakers for this online event. More information is provided further in the newsletter. We are beyond excited to continue to build and improve upon the educational opportunities that the chapter provides.
Thanks for your support of the chapter,
Benjamin Boyd, PLA, ASLA
President - Maryland Chapter
