Dear Fellow Landscape Architecture Professionals,
This is one of my final notes to you as Chapter President before the transition to our 2025–2026 Executive Board, led by President-Elect Patrick Whealton. Serving in this role has been a true privilege, and I am grateful for the passion and commitment of our members.
September was a busy month full of highlights:
Orioles Outing – We held our long-awaited ballpark outing against the Yankees. While the Orioles didn’t win, it was still a wonderful night for members and their families to share a meal, conversation, and a perfect end-of-summer evening together. Thank you to our sponsor, Country Casual Teak, for making this possible!
PARK(ing) Day – In partnership with the Baltimore City Department of Planning, we brought fun and educational activities to Calvin Rodwell Elementary/Middle School and three recreation centers across Baltimore. Students explored plant ID, design exercises, games, and art—all while experiencing how reclaiming space for people, not just cars, can transform communities.
Inner Harbor Advocacy Tour – Beginning at Rash Field Park, we met with the design team and community partners who shared insights into the park's design process, community engagement, and lessons from Phase One, with Phase Two set to open next summer. We also visited West Shore Park to hear about its long-term success, and concluded at the Aquarium wetlands to learn about their ecological impact. This event strengthened our relationships with policymakers and highlighted the role landscape architects play in shaping vibrant public spaces.
Student Mentorship Program Launch – We closed out the month at Vectorworks, where we kicked off the first full-year cycle of our Mentorship Program, pairing students and professionals for meaningful connections. Thank you to our Student Outreach Committee and Vectorworks for making this initiative possible.
These moments remind me of the energy and purpose our profession brings to Maryland.
I want to thank several people: our Executive Board—including our outgoing Interim Trustee, Vernon Hustead, who generously stepped in when the position was vacant—our committees, volunteers, and AIA Baltimore staff for their dedication and support throughout the year. It has been an honor to serve alongside you. I look forward to seeing where the Chapter grows under Patrick’s leadership and to connecting with you at future events.
Last but certainly not least, my deepest gratitude goes to my wife Melissa—our Chapter’s “First Lady.” I hope many of you had the chance to meet her at events this year. Her encouragement, patience, and unwavering support throughout my time as President have meant the world to me, and I am truly grateful.
Wishing you all the best, and I hope to see you next week in New Orleans!
Warm regards,

Michael Pullano, PLA, ASLA
President, Maryland Chapter of ASLA
