Joe's Final President's Letter: September 2023

For my last newsletter as your President, I wanted to thank each of you for your commitment to the profession and the chapter. We have accomplished so much and overcame a lot of challenges, namely the pandemic. Our board has worked very hard behind the scenes to do all the things you come to expect and upholding the highest standards for programming, CEUs, Galas and so much more. I want to sincerely thank all those that have served these last couple of years with me. It has been an honor and a privilege to be part of this great chapter. I thought it would be great to reminisce on all the accomplishments and milestones over the last couple of years that our board has made!

  • We have had 2 wonderfully successful Galas!

  • Increased our membership by over 12% and growing! (especially the student members)

  • Awarded $8,000 to both Morgan and UMD students as part of our Scholarship and Fellowship Program

  • Sponsored and supported our student members with successful Portfolio Reviews and Job Shadows

  • Successfully passed our Sunset Bill to continue our professional licensure through 2034!

  • Updated CEU regulations allowing for additional flexibility on credits.

  • 10 members newly passed the LARE.

  • Held 2 successful Virtual Regional Conferences with Virgina and Potomac Chapters (including onsite tours)

  • Issued EMBARK 2021-22!!! (Thanks Ben, Om, and Patrick)

  • 2 Newly minted Fellows (Joan Floura, FASLA, Class of 2022 and Jennifer Toole, FASLA-Elect Class of 2023!)

I look forward to seeing what the new ExCom Board does in the coming year. We had a terrific strategic planning event to kick off the new year and I am confident that the next President, Sarah Trautvetter, will lead the chapter to remarkable things!

Best Wishes,

Joe Ignatius

President, MDASLA, 2021-2023
