Position Descriptions
President-Elect (Voting Member)
The President-Elect shall be a Full Member elected for a term of one (1) year, followed by a term as President for (1) year, followed by a term as Past President for (1) year.
Once the President-Elect is elevated to President in Year 2, roles of the President include:

set the time, place, and agenda for meetings of the Executive Committee; call special meetings of the Chapter;
-
preside at meetings of the Chapter and the Executive Committee;
-
represent and act for the Chapter as directed by the Executive Committee and consistent with the policies of the Society as established by the Board of Trustees;
-
appoint, in consultation with the Executive Committee, the chairs and members of standing committees, other committees, and any special study groups or task forces;
-
dismiss appointees for failure to act or other cause;
-
serve as a member of the Chapter Presidents Council;
-
oversee the management and administration of Chapter programs and budgets as adopted by the Executive Committee;
-
designate and relieve an acting president;
-
appoint interim trustees when vacancies occur during term;
-
provide supporting statements to the Society for Emeritus Status, Limited Status, Temporary Limited Status, and Waiver of Dues applicants;
-
report on the state of the Chapter at the annual meeting of the Chapter; and
-
perform such other duties as are customary for the office of chapter president, or as may be assigned or delegated by the Executive Committee.
Secretary (Voting Member)
The Secretary shall be a Full or Associate Member elected for a term of one (1) year.
Roles of the Secretary include:

maintain a record of the proceedings of the business meetings of the Chapter and the Executive Committee;
-
prepare and issue notices of the meetings of the Chapter and the Executive Committee;
-
prepare, issue, and receive ballots;
-
administer annual and special elections and notify candidates of election results;
-
serve ex officio as a member of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee;
-
maintain the Constitution and Bylaws of the Chapter;
-
certify documents; and
-
perform such other duties as are customary for the office of chapter secretary or as may be assigned or delegated by the president.
At-Large Members (Voting Members)
The at-large members shall be Full or Associate Members elected for terms of one (1) year.
Roles of the At-Large Members include:

The at-large members shall perform such duties as are customary for the position of at-large member or as may be assigned or delegated by the Executive Committee of the Chapter.
Affiliate Representatives (Non-Voting Members)
The at-large members shall be Full or Affiliate Members elected for terms of one (1) year.
Roles of the Affiliate Representatives include:

The affiliate member representatives shall perform such duties as are customary for the position or as may be assigned or delegated by the Executive Committee of the Chapter.
Associate Member Representatives (Non-Voting Members)
The purpose of the Associate Member Representative position (formerly known as Junior Professional Representative) is to strengthen the relationship between the Chapter and recent graduates and emerging professionals. The associate member representative shall:

attend a minimum of six meetings of the Executive Committee and at least one of the following: chapter annual business meeting / strategic planning / budget-setting/review meeting or similar;
-
plan one event and assist with Chapter communications that will primarily target recent graduates and young professionals; and
-
perform such other duties as are customary for this position or as may be assigned or delegated by the president.
Dues Reimbursement
The Maryland ASLA Chapter will reimburse the selected appointee’s full ASLA Associate Membership dues—including both national and chapter dues—for the year of service.
Eligibility

Graduate of an LAAB-accredited landscape architecture degree program

Current ASLA Associate Member
-
No more than three (3) years of post-graduation professional experience
Public Practice Representative (Non-Voting Member)
The purpose of the Public Practice Position is to strengthen the relationship between the Chapter and landscape architectural professionals working in the public/not-for-profit sector. The public practice representative shall:
-
attend a minimum of six meetings of the Executive Committee;
-
assist with Chapter communications that will primarily target public practice landscape architectural professionals;
-
assist with planning and executing one annual event (minimum) focused on needs and interests for public sector landscape architectural professionals; and
-
perform such other duties as are customary for this position or as may be assigned or delegated by the president.
Dues Reimbursement
The Maryland ASLA Chapter will reimburse the selected appointee’s full ASLA Membership dues—including both national and chapter dues—for the year of service.
Eligibility
The Public Practice Representative position shall be a landscape architectural professional working within the capacity of a public/not-for-profit enterprise and shall serve for a term of one (1) year.
The Executive Committee may choose to extend this position for one (1) additional term each year.
