March Trustee's Letter

Dear Friends,

Hope you all are having a a great year so far. This is my first message to the membership this year, and I would like to convey my sincere gratitude to all of you for the continued opportunity to serve as your Trustee. In this edition of the Enews, I would like to highlight some key annual events, that we will be part of and are of importance to our organization and our profession. The next two months will be very busy at ASLA. With the National Elections, WLAM Celebration in the month of April, and Mid-Year ASLA CPC and BOT meetings, it will be an exciting time this first quarter.

A brand new concept for World Landscape Architecture Month (April), one of ASLA’s most important public awareness initiatives, will be rolled out in the coming weeks. The 2020 edition will feature opportunities for creative member and chapter participation. Stay tuned for details! This will be a great opportunity, as always, to educate the general public about our profession and increase awareness.

National elections are upon us! The 2021 president-elect candidates, Eugenia Martin, FASLA, and Emily O’Mahoney, FASLA, were announced in LAND on Feb. 12. Voting opens April 28 and closes May 28. The candidates will be asked three questions during the election cycle, which will also be reported in LAND. You can find out more about the candidates here. As members it is extremely important for us to participate and cast our vote, and help elect the next leader of our esteemed organization. I urge you to Vote!

Additionally, I encourage you all to keep yourself up to date on ASLA communications on current advocacy issues by visiting the advocacy page, where the current call for actions will soon be located, so you can then take action! This information can be found on ASLA's IAdvocate Page.

As always, I would like to end with my usual plug, we need volunteers to serve on our committees and bring in fresh ideas. We are in search of a volunteer to serve as the Membership Chair for our Chapter. If you wish to contribute to this effort and the profession, please feel free to reach out to us.

I will be back with more. Have a wonderful month ahead!

Sincerely,

Om Khurjekar, PLA, ASLA
