Dear MDASLA members and friends,
In my first letter to you as President of the Maryland Chapter of ASLA, I want to thank you all for this immense honor to represent this chapter. I also want to thank Ben Boyd for all he has done as president for the last 2+ years. He has done an amazing job helping us get through the pandemic, setting up countless events and conferences, and MCing our galas– virtual in 2020 and our best gala yet this past October, meticulously editing our EMBARK and pivoting through the sea of virtual meetings. As he and his family enter a new chapter in their lives, I wish them all the best and look forward to continuing to collaborate in his new role as Past President. Also – speaking of change, this month we bid farewell to our Executive Director, Kathleen Lane, who has done a fantastic job of helping to manage the chapter from behind the scenes and brought our organization into the Center for Architecture and Design. She will move on to AIA National in a new role leading their efforts on Climate Action. We wish her all the best and I know we will continue to collaborate in her new role.
As we look forward to the end of 2021 and begin a new year, there is so much to look forward to. We are planning celebrations for our 50th! Anniversary of our chapter’s founding, organizing events for Olmsted 200, setting up a Climate Action Regional Summit this June with our friends from Potomac and Virginia Chapters, and building off our successful Gala of last year. I can’t wait to begin to work with our Board and see you all much more in the coming year. I hope you all have a Happy Holidays and hope to see you all at the Holiday Happy Hour next week!
Cheers,
Joe Ignatius, III, ASLA
MDASLA, President 2021-2023
